The Problem
When The Blade Moves, Your Skin Feels It.
Shaving hair puts resistance on a blade. If the edge shifts or flexes, it can tug at hair and scrape across skin. The AL13 supports the blade securely and guides it at a consistent angle.
01 / CONTROL
A Fixed Shave Plane
Keep the razor's flat shaving surface against your skin to find the cutting angle without guesswork.
02 / STABILITY
A Secure Blade
The precisely machined head clamps one double edge blade in place to limit flex during the shave.
03 / PRESSURE
A Light Touch
At just 37 g, it is easy to guide with your fingertips and use only the pressure needed to maintain contact.
Why It Works
One Blade. Held Precisely At 30°.
The Henson head sets the blade angle and supports the cutting edge. Its flat shave plane helps you keep that angle consistent as you move across the face, head or body.
Henson says the AL13 is machined to tolerances as tight as 12.7 μm for blade angle and exposure. That precision is designed to make a close, controlled shave easier to repeat.
THE HENSON APPROACH
Control The Blade. Ease Up On Pressure.
A single blade cuts where you need it. Let the razor's geometry do the work; pressing harder does not improve the shave.
The 30° Advantage
Henson Sets The Ideal Blade Angle.
Every blade has a sweet spot: an angle where it cuts cleanly and easily. Drift from it and the blade stops cutting and starts catching.
The Henson holds the blade precisely at 30°, which in our experience is the ideal angle for shaving.
See how the razor holds the blade at a consistent angle.
Built In Canada
Aerospace Precision. Everyday Shaving.
Manufactured at Henson's Ontario aerospace facility, the AL13 is made from aircraft grade 6061-T651 aluminum and finished with Type II anodizing for scratch resistance.
How To Use
Let The Razor Set The Angle.
01
Fit A Blade
Hold a new double edge blade by its short sides, place it on the top cap and tighten the assembled handle until finger tight.
02
Prepare Your Skin
Soften the hair with warm water and apply a proper shave cream for glide.
03
Keep It Flat
Rest the shave plane flat against your skin. Tilt the handle slightly until the blade begins to cut.
04
Go Gently
Use light pressure and short strokes. If you are new to safety razors, start by shaving with the grain.

Quick Answers
Questions Before Your First Shave?
Does the Henson AL13 need special blades?
No. It accepts standard double edge safety razor blades. Check the SGPomades listing for the exact blades included with your purchase.
Is this the standard AL13 or the AL13-M?
This page describes the standard Henson AL13 in Aircraft Aluminum. The AL13-M is a different, more aggressive model.
Can I use it on my face, head and body?
Yes. Henson describes the AL13 as suitable for shaving across the face, head and body. Use a gentle touch and take extra care on sensitive areas.
How do I find the right shaving angle?
Place the flat shave plane against your skin and adjust the handle slightly until it cuts. Keep the surface in contact as you shave.
Will it eliminate razor burn?
No razor can guarantee that. Henson designed the rigid blade and fixed angle to reduce common sources of friction and tugging; preparation and technique still matter.

Love the razor - wish I would have switched to double-edge safety razor long ago. The feel of the Henson is really nice. Its aluminum but still has a great heft and feel in the hand. Worth the money. Buy for life.
This is my second razor from Henson. But this has 2 ++. My first was mild . I know I’ll be buying the +++ in the future. I’ll also start purchasing the other products . The fact that it is close to my home & the sales people are more than capable of discussing about men’s shaving is a boon . There’s no other shop like yours. Thank you.
Smooth AF and glided across my face like butter. Not to mention that since there is no obstruction near the blade. The shave really cuts well. And the guiding angle of the shaver is very well done.
As someone who recently learned about DE razors and has never used any safety razors before. This is a great razor to learn how to start. Only nicked myself a little because I'm still learning.
I have been using the Henson AL13-M for three months now. This is the Medium version of the original Henson razor with a wider gap and blade exposure.
This razor is the best so far, and I have tried many other well-known brands out there. The AL-13 gives me the closest, smoothest shave with no skin irritation - and I have sensitive skin. It allows me to shave with fewer passes and more quickly than any other razor I have used. This razor is precision-engineered, and the fit and finish are excellent. The brushed aluminum head provides a smooth glide over the beard and skin - far superior to some mirror-polished heads in other razors.
If you are looking for a DE razor that provides quick, comfortable shaves, look no further. This is the best!
First time using a safety razor and the Henson is a nice beginner's tool. I like the light weight of the razor and the build quality is really nice which makes me confident the razor will be a good investment (since blades are so cheap even with changing more often than strictly necessary). I don't regret getting the medium aggressiveness as it's great for my face and neck hair however it's a little iffy for other delicate areas (likely in part due to my inexperience) so I do still use cheap cartridge razors for those. Haven't tried shaving my head with the Henson yet but I don't doubt it will do a great job and provide a much closer shave than my electric trimmer.
Sensitive skin, used to struggle to shave more than once a week. With the blade/handle combination (the included RK x Henson blades) I can now shave every 2-3 days with no ingrown hairs, irritation or redness/ nicks. Takes 3 passes to capture the various directions of growth but an easy to use and comfortable shave.
I am not a new user to DE shaving, owning several Parkers, 2 Tataras, a few Rockwells, Merkurs and other lesser known brands.
A friend has bought a Henson Al3-Mild version and felt that it was way too gentle, and not effficient enough, requiring more than a few passes to get that BBS shave.
So I got the Henson AL13-Medium and while to me, still feel very gentle (comparable to a Rockewell set at 3 / Plate 3) performs more like a 4 or 5 setting and easily clear stubble, giving you that perfect BBS without too many passes.
Works best when paired with the sharper blades, like Bic Chrome Platiunm, Feathers, Super Irridiums or Gillette Nacets.
I thought I know what is BBS, not until I use this shaver. No blade fill yet very close shave without nicks and burns.
This will be my daily shaver.
I use the mild version.
This is a highly engineered and well manufactured shaving DE razor. I was thoroughly impressed by it. There is no familiar shaving crackle of the hair being cut by the razor in traditional DE razors. The feel is very similar to cartridge shavers. To get the best shave you have to stretch your skin to allow the stubble to come out for a close shave. Lightweight and the supplied RK blades shaves well. I love it!
